Why am I running for City Council?

I’m a concerned citizen. It makes me proud that Newport has become the “It place to be” in the travel and tourism industry. And, I love being able to share this beautiful city with visitors, newcomers, individuals and families looking for a new start in life, and retirees that want an amazing place to start the next chapter of their life. As a result, Newport has grown and prospered.

However, in order to achieve that, we have become hyper-focused on creating “The Perfect Newport” and have let the quality of life falter for our long-term residents. Locals that were born and raised here are feeling the strain of trying to achieve “The Perfect Newport”. Many are no longer able to continue to reside here, as affordable housing is hard to achieve and maintain.

As such, we have lost the community that I was fortunate enough to grow up in. We lack an equitable community. We have a divide between our City Government and the people, which has drowned out the voice of the people. We should be seeing more diversity, more fair representation of the people. We should be experiencing more opportunities for our children to grow and create lives for themselves here.

There is no reason why we can’t have “The Perfect Newport” and a quality of life worthy of all of our residents.

I believe that the lifelong residency experience that I have, along with my work experience, specifically in handling negotiations, and grievances, along with my process improvement expertise will be an asset to Council. I would be honored to earn your vote.
